MADE IN: Crafts—Design Narratives
www.madein-platform.com

MADE IN addresses the problems of hyperproduction and distribution of goods of questionable ethics in contemporary society, and with it connected the disappearance of local craft knowledge, communities and cultural identities. It also addresses the topics of the resources, origin, purpose and sustainability of our artificial environment and its relationship to design. The project is envisioned as an international platform for research, design and heritage that acts as a digital repository of crafts and design projects and knowledge, the network for craftspeople, designers, theoreticians, curators, scholars, and a medium that raises awareness of the alternative models of production based on co-creative and collaborative practices, and a promotional channel that encourages critical discourse about the preservation of local heritage. The results of the first phase of the project (2018 – 2021) come in the form of a Crafts Archive which presents the works and histories of 40 craft businesses in Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. Departing from this, project groups of artisans and creatives from all over Europe have dealt with specific themes and challenges of their regions. The results of their work in various shapes and forms are presented online and through a travelling exhibition and a printed book. The whole process was followed by a series of discursive programs.
